Travel, for me, has always been about curiosity—about learning, dreaming, and piecing together what a place might feel like even before I’ve been there myself. While I haven’t personally set foot in the ports of Canada & New England, I’ve spent a good deal of time researching, reading fellow travellers’ accounts, and diving into cruise line resources to understand what makes this region so special. My own journeys with Windstar Cruises have shown me how the right experience can transform a trip into something truly personal and memorable. Here’s what I’ve discovered—and why I think this corner of the world deserves a place on your travel wish list.
Québec City, Quebec: Old-World Charm and Timeless Mornings
Every guidebook and photo I’ve seen paints Québec City as a place out of time. I’ve read about its cobblestone streets, centuries-old buildings, and how the aroma of fresh pastries fills the early morning air. Travellers describe being swept into a world where French-Canadian culture and history are woven into daily life—a setting that’s both romantic and deeply welcoming.
Halifax, Nova Scotia: Maritime Warmth and Waterfront Life
Through my research and conversations, Halifax stands out as a city with a big heart. Its harbour is alive with both local tradition and maritime history, and I often hear about the authentic hospitality found in its markets and along the boardwalk. It seems like the kind of place where it’s easy to strike up a conversation with a local, and where the salty sea breeze is always present.
Bar Harbor, Maine: Nature’s Invitation
Bar Harbor has captured my imagination as a haven for nature lovers. Accounts from travellers praise the dramatic coastline and wild beauty of Acadia National Park, just minutes from town. I picture the simple pleasure of a walk along pine-shaded trails or sharing a slice of blueberry pie in a cozy café—moments that seem to invite you to slow down and soak it all in.
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island: Gentle Island Life
Charlottetown, from everything I’ve gathered, is the embodiment of island warmth. The colourful houses, green fields, and red cliffs all come up again and again in stories from visitors. There’s a sense of genuine community and friendly cheer—people describe music in the streets, local food, and small acts of kindness that make a lasting impression.
Boston, Massachusetts: Where History Meets Modern Life
Boston, as I’ve learned, is a place where past and present blend seamlessly. Its historic streets and vibrant neighbourhoods seem perfectly designed for wandering and discovery. Fellow travellers often mention the city’s green spaces, lively markets, and the way history feels very much alive—without feeling overwhelming.
Smaller Ports: Unhurried Discoveries
One of the things I appreciate most about cruising with Windstar is the chance to visit those “hidden gem” ports—places that larger ships can’t reach. Ports like Lunenburg or Gaspe come up in my research as quiet, welcoming spots, rich with character and stories just waiting to be uncovered.
Why Windstar? A Personal Note
While my own travels haven’t yet taken me to these Canadian and New England shores, I have sailed with Windstar Cruises and know firsthand how their intimate ships and thoughtful service can make each journey feel comfortable and personal. It’s the kind of atmosphere where you feel truly looked after—where travel isn’t just about checking places off a list, but about feeling connected and at home, wherever you go.
If you’re curious about exploring Canada & New England and want to feel cared for every step of the way, I’d love to help you plan a journey that’s tailored just for you.
